- View Game Parameters is a read-only version of the Advanced New Game Wizard. Both dialogs contain the same information and display the same help.
Open the Advanced New Game Wizard by clicking on the Advanced Game... button in the New Game dialog. Use this wizard if you're setting up a multi-player game or want more control over the playing conditions in a single player game. The Advanced Game wizard has these steps:
Contents
Step 1: Specify the Universe
Create the universe, using the following options:
<tooltip text="Game Name">Game Name Keep the name Stars! offers or type in a name for your game. This name appears in the Stars! titlebar when the game is running.</tooltip> <tooltip text="Tiny Universe">Tiny Universe <tooltip text="Small Universe">Small Universe <tooltip text="Medium Universe">Medium Universe <tooltip text="Large Universe">Large Universe <tooltip text="Huge Universe">Huge Universe <tooltip text="Density">Density |
<tooltip text="Player Positions">Player Positions This allows you to specify how close players start out relative to each other. The result of these selections are affected by the number of players, the size of the universe and the density of the universe. For instance, playing a 16 player game in a tiny universe severely restricts your chances for expansion, since a tiny universe typically has only 32 planets. More than two players in a tiny universe will be a very short game. You can increase the pace and length of a game in any size universe by selecting Dense in the planet Density box. You'll have more planets to colonize with short distances between them, and a rapid increase in resources and technological development. ⇒ If you want plenty of time get the feel of the game and to plan before you run into your opponent(s), choose Distant player positions. ⇒ Distant player positions is considered to be the option that gives the most fair(or rather least unfair) Player Positions</tooltip> <tooltip text="Beginner: Unlimited Minerals">Beginner: Maximum Minerals <tooltip text="Slower Tech Advances">Slower Tech Advances <tooltip text="Accelerated BBS Play">Accelerated BBS Play <tooltip text="No Random Events">No Random Events <tooltip text="Computer Players Form Alliances">Computer Players Form Alliances <tooltip text="Public Player Scores">Public Player Scores <tooltip text="Galaxy Clumping">Galaxy Clumping |
Step 2: Specify the Players
Click on the blue diamond next to a player number. The menus that appear list the following options:
Predefined Race | displays a list of all predefined races. Select a listed race or select ???Random??? to let Stars! design a new race to fill that position. Select Expansion player to create a random, potentially human controlled computer player that is currently inactive. The host may assign these player positions to players entering the game after it has started. Until that happens, the expansion players do generally passive things like conduct research. |
---|---|
Custom Race | designs a new race or loads a custom race. Select New... to design and save a customized race, and add it to the game. Select Open... to add an existing custom race to the game. |
Edit Race... | appears only when a human controlled race is selected. Choosing this item takes you into the Custom Race wizard. |
Computer Player | displays a list of all computer generated races. Select a race and a proficiency level. |
No Player | clears that position. |
Step 3: Specify Winning Conditions
Each of the values has a spinner next to it to adjust it. Select and modify as many conditions as you wish, then select the number of them that must be met for victory to be declared.
Multiple players can achieve victory at the same time (with the same or different conditions)
Once you're satisfied with the winning conditions, you can click on Finish and let the game begin.
- Both the SHIFT and CTRL keys act as accelerators on this step.
