The colony hull is a cheap and efficient colonization freighter available from the start of the game for all PRT. While a lot of players prefer to rely on other hulls for their colonizing needs because of the high germanium cost, the colony hull remain the first choice for the very early stage of the game.

Contrary to some new players false belief, one do not need to rely exclusively on the colony hull for colonization. What qualify a hull as colonization worthy is not the hull itself but the presence of a colonization module on the hull in question. A colonization module can be mounted on any mechanical or general purpose slot which can be found on almost all hull types.

It is very important to note that a recently found bug allow one to copy a colony ship design, remove the colonization module and still retain colonization ability. Even though this bug can be abused on any hull, removing the module from a colony hull from the start of the game and onward is a huge saving in long term resources and minerals without the sacrifice of a more "useful" ship in return. The use of this bug on a colony hull is known to get other players suspicious on sight and can lead to immediate game ban. You have been warned.
