The wiki won't let me upload .zip files with 'packs of GIFs'. If that's for security I understand.

I need a way to have download links to the uploaded .GIF files without showing them and wasting bandwidth every time the page is viewed. The uploaded .GIFs go into the Image space (Image:filename.gif) instead of the file space (File:filename.gif). Not sure how to make a link to download an Image.

The way it is now (a dirty wiki hack) each user will have to see the file THEN download it which uses up twice as much bandwidth as necessary. Most of the files are like 10-50 kb, but a very few like PIBACK.GIF, which only people making maps will want to download, are 1.79 Mb.

Any ideas?

The File namespace is actually an interwiki link abuse that simple links to the files in a particular directory. I have to upload them myself via ftp.

The individual images belong in the Image namespace where they can be used on pages etc(as thumbnail or however), but its certainly worth having a zip of them all. If you email me the zip I can put it up and will link it from the utils page.

You can link to images' pages without displaying them like this or make a link directly to the image like this, personally I'd provide both. AFAIK the image page will automagically scale the images, so bandwidth may not be such an issue, but tis a good thing to beware of. Someone should probably test it to see if I've forgotten a setting somewhere

• I'll email the zip to you later. I was hoping that lots of different people would eventually share their maps here. (Or maybe I'm the only person on earth who uses Mapper).

  You're the only one I know of.

• It's not worth it to show the maps. The way I make them (to make the file size small) would only look like a black square at even 1/2 scale.

• Another strange thing is that I can't see the files RESIZER_3 and above (only did to _4 then quit). When I go to those pages it displays a totally white screen. It might be because the WIKI can not display such large GIFs.
• Same totally white page with Internet Explorer so it must be on that end. (another reason to let people upload .zips)
